Saturday, November 8th | 9 AM to 12 PM | Kerr Hall | 228 W. Edenton St., Raleigh, NC 27603
Join us for a Continuing Education Unit training that will provide licensed mental health clinicians with practical, culturally-responsive tools for integrating spirituality into client care while maintaining ethical, trauma-informed practice. Using the bio-psycho-social-spiritual model as our framework, we will explore best practices for assessing spirituality and identifying spiritual/religious trauma.
Objectives
- Explain best practices for assessing spirituality (including the Spiritual Attachment Scale) and identifying spiritual/religious trauma.
- Engage in client-centered conversations around spirituality and religion, especially with those who have experienced harm in faith-based contexts.
- Integrate evidence-based models such as IFS and Narrative Therapy to address spiritual parts and experiences.
- Apply principles of cultural humility and DEIB when working with clients from diverse faith backgrounds, including LGBTQIA2S+ and neurodiverse individuals.
- Explain crisis intervention scenarios involving religious beliefs, including fear of death and suicide-related concerns, and exploring redemptive spiritual narratives around mental health.
- Discuss strategies for collaboration with spiritual directors and other interdisciplinary practitioners.
